What is your ethnicity?
Black British (Caribbean)What do you do and what do you love about it?
I help creators make a sustainable living doing what they love in the creative arts through teaching, digital learning platforms and collaborating with educational institutions & orgs. I also work in higher education as a digital learning specialist, helping to facilitate accessible and inclusive online learning experiences. There’s so many things I love about the work I do - the opportunity to provide the kind of support under-resourced creators like me would have benefited from in earlier career stages for one. Meeting and actually connecting with many creative people who are about it. Who genuinely give a damn about their craft and continuously hack away at it - that will always be inspiring. Also the flexibility and scope of it all. There’s always new methods to try and I’m always discovering new ways to build things - keeps my busy brain satisfied. What motivates and inspires you?
What motivates me is the ability to wake up and do exactly what I enjoy and earn a living from it. Sounds very cliche, but it’s the truth. For a long while, I wasn’t sure what kind of roles to look for, or what to focus on, but after a while, I naturally carved out a lane for myself that combines many of the things I enjoy, i.e; teaching, building and creating. Another source of motivation, if I’m being completely honest - is to liberate myself from mentally unsafe environments and have the freedom to build and curate my own personal paradise. Incredibly long journey with many bumps but we’re getting there.
I’m inspired by my friends, I’m inspired by the creative people I have met during my classes and workshops, those I have met on social media. I’m inspired by other peoples’ stories too (watching home buying journeys and house tours are personal faves.) It’s inspiring to see how others express themselves creatively and live out loud, whether that’s through their art, their clothing or how they decorate their homes.
